SMA News

As the school year draws to a close, the SMA would like to update our St. Michael’s families on the “free money” earnings. The total gained from Box Tops alone was $860! Hold on to your remaining box tops and continue collections for our fall Box Top rally once school is back in session.

The SMA would like to extend an enormous thank-you to Laura Lee and Claire Zeiller for their efforts in guaranteeing flowers were available for all the St. Michael’s performers in both the K-3 and 4-8 Fine Arts Night shows. The flowers were lovely, and the process for ordering and picking up was smooth; both were greatly appreciated!

Our last big event of the school year, Art Expo, is this Friday night! Any and all free hands are needed and welcome to help display art throughout our campus.  This event is such a wonderful culmination of the students’ year in art. Please step in for any amount of time during the school day on Friday, if you are available.

Thank you all for your support and generosity during this school year. The SMA could not be what it is without parental support; we are so grateful for those in our St. Michael’s family! We are already thinking ahead to next fall and hope you will consider joining us in the planning and preparation of events for the 2016-17 school year. Have a blessed and relaxing summer!

SMA News

Wow! Another year has come and gone, and what an amazing year it’s been.  We would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you who’ve supported us in various ways.  Mrs. Moore always says we have the best parent volunteers, and we know we do!
Last week’s Teacher Appreciation Week was a smashing success.  One teacher came up to us and told us she “felt spoiled,” to which we responded, “That’s the way we want it.  You deserve it, and we want to keep you all taking such great care of our children.”  We want to thank Sandy Clark for transporting the meals, Sarah Nordstrom for transporting the bread, the wonderful parents who donated wine and seltzer water, as well as money to cover incidental costs, and to our back up bakers for once again coming through with awesome desserts! But most of all to Cheryl Terpning for coordinating the whole week.  Once more we find ourselves in your debt.
This morning we had a breakfast meeting for our dedicated volunteers and chairpersons to offer them a token of appreciation for all their hard work this year.  If you are a chairperson and were unable to attend, please stop by the office to pick up your goodie.
The Art Expo is this Friday.  Of course we are once again asking for any volunteers to help with set up.  If you are available Thursday and Friday, please contact Lonnie Reese at, or Maria Uribe at  But more than just another call for help, we’d like to personally encourage all to attend.  It is not merely a showcase for the arts, but also a celebration of our shared experiences this year.  We hope to see you there.
Lastly, it’s been a pleasure to act as your SMA co-chairs for this year.  We really could not have done it without the help and support of so many wonderful people.  It would just take too long to thank you individually here, so we ask that all the parents look around as you drop off or pick up your children from school, or at the various celebrations this week.  Chances are, you’re surrounded by those who’ve volunteered in what way or another.  So here’s to you.
Cheers!  And see you next year!

We want to thank our last Coffee Corner Sponsor for this year:  Dr. Steve Zeiller of Tucson Orthopedic  Institute.  Also, kudos to our eighth graders who added their own sweet touch with delectable goodies.  Thank you all for your continued support.  We will continue with this tradition in the years to come, and we’ll get percolating again in September!
The St. Michaels Business Directory is being launched. If you are currently in it, look for an E-mail to confirm your information.  If you would like to be in it, you can complete the registration on-line.  Look for the link on Ed-line at the bottom right hand corner of the home screen.  For any questions or concerns, please contact Denise Newton at
We will be having our final SMA meeting next Wednesday, May 14.  We would like all those who’ve chaired a committee this year to stop by the Foundations Courtyard near  the cafeteria for goodies we have for you as well as a token of appreciation for all your hard work this year.
Finally, Art Expo is just around the corner (literally! It’s on Friday 5/16). If you have some free time and would like to help with set up, contact Lonnie Reese at or Maria Uribe at to let us know.  Thank you

Notes from the Head

After months and months of planning and preparation, our auction gala, Savor St. Michael’s, is almost here! Have you bought your tickets yet? This March 22nd event is not to be missed. It promises to be an elegant evening with good friends, good food, delicious wines, and awesome items that will tempt the highest bidder. I, for one, cannot wait to experience yet another spectacular, community event at St. Michael’s. When I first arrived for my introductory visit to our campus, it was the evening of Art Expo. I was so astonished at the number of parent volunteers who worked tirelessly into the evening in order to showcase the artistic talents of our students. Parents and grandparents working together to support the school instantly convinced me that St. Michael’s was a unique place. Our gala event, Savor St. Michael’s, is so very important to our school. Money raised supports the programs which insure that our students continue to have the very best K-8 education available in Tucson. We depend on our families to support our annual events such as the golf tournament, our auction gala, and Art Expo because in supporting these events through attendance and donations, you are supporting our students. I would like to express my heartfelt appreciation to all of our volunteers who have contributed countless hours already to make Savor St. Michael’s a big success. Not only will it be a celebration of our students but also a celebration of our community and the friends who support us. Tickets will be on sale at arrival and dismissal through next Friday as well as on-line. I hope to see you there. My tickets are in hand. Are yours? Cheers!
