The St. Michael’s Box Tops Grand Prix has come to a close, and what an exciting contest we’ve had! The leaderboard changed dramatically several times, and we are pleased to announce the results for the top five class rankings. In 5th place, with a last-minute drive, is Eighth Grade (943 total). In 4th place is Fifth Grade (1114); in 3rd place is Third Grade (1196), in 2nd place is Fourth Grade (1338). In 1st place, with an impossible-to-overcome lead from last week, is Seventh Grade (1828). We will let those classes know when their well-deserved frozen treat celebrations are scheduled.
This week’s individual prize student winners were Grace Clements (8th) and Shay Vinayak (1B). Congratulations! Thank you to all the students who participated. The biggest winner of all is our school. Your combined efforts yielded more than $800 in just three weeks! Keep saving those box tops. We will have another contest in the spring.
I would like to give additional, heartfelt thanks to our wonderful counting volunteers: Kristen Greenwood, Bridget and Michael Peyton, Sarah Nordstrom, Julia Rebert, Erika Pina- Loucks, Anna Martinez-Ross, and our final marathon counters: Dina Corrado and Laura Lee Zeiller. It’s not easy sorting and verifying tiny print for more than 8,000 box tops! Lastly we would like to thank Claim Jumpers and Bookman’s for providing our gift certificates for student give-aways.
The 8th grade will be having a bake sale this Friday, October 4th to raise money for the class gift. Please come and support their efforts. The bake sale will be in front of the school at 7:30 am with SMA’s Coffee corner.
Thanks to the Entire St. Michael’s Community for supporting the Middle School Lunch Fundraisers. There are two more weeks to go. We are in the home stretch and are looking for a few more Daily Sponsorships. If you are interested in sponsoring a full day for $200 or just making a contribution, please contact Mary Lou Martin at firstname.lastname@example.org This ends September 27th so help us to send these kids on their journeys! Remember it is a tax deductible!
Our first Coffee Corner of the year was a rousing success! The festive gathering provided a great place for reconnecting, as well as finding out more about the Vaqueros, free money programs, Gift Wrap Fundraiser, and carpool information. We were also visited by representatives of the Boy and Girl Scouts troops. Our very own Student Council sold water bottles and even held a bake sale in support of the Heifer Program. Sorry you missed it? Don’t worry. We’ve got another one coming your way on Friday, October 4, so mark your calendars, and we’ll see you there.
We want to thank Sandy Clark and Bison Witches restaurant for coordinating the 1/2 day lunch for our teachers and staff, as well as our wonderful back up bakers for providing desserts. The food was yummy and greatly appreciated.
Our 2nd annual St. Michael’s Box Top Grand Prix is under way. The contest will run for several weeks, but you can turn your Box Tops in to your teacher any time. Be sure to have your first and last name along with your grade on the back of each top. We will have weekly drawings for awesome prizes! This year we will also include Labels for Eduction with the Grand Prix. The grade that turns in the most tops/labels will win an eegee’s party!
Shop at Safeway? From now until Sept. 10, look for products with the 10% back to school tag. Connect your Safeway shopper card to St. Michael’s, and we receive that 10%. After Sept. 10, look at the bottom of your receipt. If it has a string of numbers/letters on it, then drop that part of your receipt in one of the St. Michael’s boxes at Safeway, or put it in the box by the office, and we will link your card for you.
The Give with Target campaign is under way. Do you have a Facebook account? From now until Sept. 21, Target is donating 5 million dollars to schools. All you need to do is go to our St. Michael’s Facebook page and look for the post, click the link, and vote for our school. Each vote brings us $1.00! You can vote once per week. Tell your family and friends to vote, too. They don’t need to live in Tucson to support us. Don’t forget that as a Target Red Card user you can also support our school simply by using your card when you shop. Make sure to designate St. Michael’s as your recipient.
Our “St. Mike’s Goes Hawaiian” event is right around the corner! Join us for dinner and fun on September 13 from 5:30-7:30 P.M. We will have pizza for sale and Kona Ice, a business owned by one of our St. Michael’s families, will be selling frozen treats. A portion of the proceeds from both will go to funding our school field trips. DJ Jason is back providing music, and Michael Crownheart and The Ukesters return to entertain us. Come enjoy an unforgettable evening.
