We had another successful Uniform Sale and Exchange last Wednesday. Hundreds of items found new homes–just another way we are keeping St. Michael’s green! Thank you to the families that exchanged and shopped. The SMA is so grateful for our volunteers: Dina Corrado, Anna McCallister-Nichols, Elizabeth Berenguer, Bridget Barber, Cathryn Rose, Michelle Carrick, Shanti Martinez, Stacy Butler, Mike Peyton, Jennifer Lahue-Smith, Sarah Nordstrom, Helena Rodrigues, and Kanchana Narendran. Thank you for making this exchange possible!
We would also like to extend a sincere thank-you to Martinez-Ross Marketing and Bruegger’s Bagels for sponsoring our Coffee Corner last Friday. We look forward to sharing coffee with you in the New Year at our next Friday morning social!
Thank you finally to those families who supported our school by purchasing gift wrap. Items were delivered Friday to the classrooms. If you have not received your gift-wrap purchase and need to do so, please contact Terese Souvignier at firstname.lastname@example.org or 979-2248.
As the holiday season kicks off, a big thank-you goes out to Kerry Byrd for enhancing our beautiful campus with an amazing Christmas look and feel. Her vision, time, and hard work is much appreciated. Also many thanks to Denise Blair for helping out. It’s a big job, so thank you!
The Holiday Greens will arrive today (Wednesday) and will be delivered to the classrooms on Thursday by pick-up time. There are a limited quantity of wreaths, garlands and centerpieces still available to purchase. If anyone needs to make different arrangements for the pick-up of their greens or would like to purchase any, they can contact Kim Greene at email@example.com or 520-326-9038.
Gift Wrap will arrive this Friday, December 4th, hopefully to be delivered to the classrooms by pick-up time. In the event the truck shows up late, we will have them delivered on Monday. If you’d like to arrange another plan, contact Terese Souvignier at 520-979-2248 or Julia Rebert at 520-955-4579. Thank you for supporting these two school fundraisers.
The uniform exchange is happening today, December 2. If you missed it this morning, the Parish Center will be open again from 11:30-12:30. Gently used clothes will be accepted for even exchange, and items will be available for purchase for $2 and $4.
It’s the first Friday of the month, and that means Coffee Corner is back, sponsored by Martinez-Ross Marketing. Please stop by Friday morning for a hot cup of coffee!
Our campus is festive with Halloween and autumn-themed décor, which must mean that the SMA is entering one of the busiest yet most joyful times of the year. Happy Fall! We’d like to thank Kerry Bryd, Helen Bernard, and Gina Reyes for their teamwork in decorating the school for all to enjoy.
With the holidays approaching it is not too early to begin thinking about gift giving. Our gift-wrap fundraiser is “wrapping” up next week, with the deadline for purchase next Monday the 26th. Beyond the two-sided gift wrap, there are other types of items, such as chocolates, holiday décor, kitchen gadgets, and more! An added bonus to this fundraiser is if twelve or more students from your child’s classroom submit an order (of any dollar amount), your child’s teacher will receive a gift certificate in the amount of $75 dollars. This is the gift that keeps on giving! A major portion of the funds from this campaign will be used to fund the SMA parent association. More detailed information is on the St. Michael’s website (www.stmichael.net), and additional order forms are available at the School Office. Please consider an order, of any amount, today!
EXTRA! EXTRA! Our Innisbrook Giftwrap deadline has been extended, due to popular demand. If you haven’t already turned in your orders, please do so by this Friday, October 11th. Don’t be left out! Great items, and prices are to be found in the catalog. As always, we thank you for your generosity. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Jessica Huber at Jessica@hubercpa.com.
We’d like to thank everyone who came to our Coffee Corner last Friday and made it a great success. Once again, our wonderful eighth graders put on a bake sale and the coffee was provided by the Peña family. Didn’t get a chance to stop in? Don’t worry, we’re doing it again the first Friday of every month, and November will have the famous 3rd Grade bake sale. We’ll see you then!
We’d like to give a “shout out” to the Coffee And… Performance, led by Dr. Antista and the Singing Eagles, featuring guest performances by alumni and our very own Mary Redhouse. They put on an amazing show! We’d also like to thank the always amazing volunteers who helped with set up, during the show, and clean up: Hyewon Shin Son, John Pendolino, Felicia Sterling, Kim Greene, Chris Strong, Anabelle Leal-Peña, Catherine Gioannetti, Andy and Amy Bruno, and all the other good Samaritans, who just lent a hand. Bravo!
Finally we’d like to invite you to our next SMA meeting, on Wednesday, October 16th, at 8:05 in the Parish Center.
Free Money Update: August and September were filled with free money campaigns; our parent volunteers’ hard work and your participation have clearly paid off! The Target Gives to School Campaign has garnered $405, and our receipt collections for Safeway 10% Back to School has resulted in over $1000 raised so far. These totals do not include the continuous contributions made throughout the year that are raised by simply continuing to shop at your favorite market or Target store. We want to thank some awesome parents who helped with the collection process: Dina Corrado, Wendy Roe, Anabelle Leal–Pena, Jennifer Peterson and the many other volunteers who have stepped up when needed. Their dedication and efforts are the lifeblood of our organization. Thank you for all your help!!!

We had a blast at our annual family celebration, “St. Mike’s Goes Hawaiian” last Friday evening. The kids danced the night away in the Student Center to the rockin’ sounds of DJ Jason from Desert DJS, while in the Creswell Courtyard, we were treated to the lovely music of Michael Crownhart and the Ukesters. Our thanks to Arlene Tomlinson for arranging the performance. We also held several contests and raffled off some awesome prizes from our Gift Wrap Campaign. We want to thank Karrie and Chris Reaney, owners of Kona Ice, for donating a portion of their sales to the Middle School field trips. The Vaqueros were their usual awesome selves helping serve pizza and providing security and help with clean up. We couldn’t have done any of this without the help of our set-up and hospitality crew that included Jennifer Jenkins, Heather Tay, Julia Rebert, Anabelle Leal-Pena, Amy Divijak, and Kerri Bushell, as well as the other good Samaritans who gave their help that evening. Another big thank you for a job well done goes to the Honor Society student volunteers who helped with the various contests that evening.

The eScrip program: Safeway’s 10% Back to Schools continues this week and runs through October 4th. Check those Safeway receipts and look for a long code number. It contains cash value that can benefit our school. In fact, if you don’t see our St. Michael’s box at your nearest Safeway store, just bring your receipt, drop it in the designated box by the front office, and we’ll take it from there. Thank you for your continued support.

Our first Coffee Corner of the year was a rousing success! The festive gathering provided a great place for reconnecting, as well as finding out more about the Vaqueros, free money programs, Gift Wrap Fundraiser, and carpool information. We were also visited by representatives of the Boy and Girl Scouts troops. Our very own Student Council sold water bottles and even held a bake sale in support of the Heifer Program. Sorry you missed it? Don’t worry. We’ve got another one coming your way on Friday, October 4, so mark your calendars, and we’ll see you there.
We want to thank Sandy Clark and Bison Witches restaurant for coordinating the 1/2 day lunch for our teachers and staff, as well as our wonderful back up bakers for providing desserts. The food was yummy and greatly appreciated.
Our 2nd annual St. Michael’s Box Top Grand Prix is under way. The contest will run for several weeks, but you can turn your Box Tops in to your teacher any time. Be sure to have your first and last name along with your grade on the back of each top. We will have weekly drawings for awesome prizes! This year we will also include Labels for Eduction with the Grand Prix. The grade that turns in the most tops/labels will win an eegee’s party!
Shop at Safeway? From now until Sept. 10, look for products with the 10% back to school tag. Connect your Safeway shopper card to St. Michael’s, and we receive that 10%. After Sept. 10, look at the bottom of your receipt. If it has a string of numbers/letters on it, then drop that part of your receipt in one of the St. Michael’s boxes at Safeway, or put it in the box by the office, and we will link your card for you.
The Give with Target campaign is under way. Do you have a Facebook account? From now until Sept. 21, Target is donating 5 million dollars to schools. All you need to do is go to our St. Michael’s Facebook page and look for the post, click the link, and vote for our school. Each vote brings us $1.00! You can vote once per week. Tell your family and friends to vote, too. They don’t need to live in Tucson to support us. Don’t forget that as a Target Red Card user you can also support our school simply by using your card when you shop. Make sure to designate St. Michael’s as your recipient.
Our “St. Mike’s Goes Hawaiian” event is right around the corner! Join us for dinner and fun on September 13 from 5:30-7:30 P.M. We will have pizza for sale and Kona Ice, a business owned by one of our St. Michael’s families, will be selling frozen treats. A portion of the proceeds from both will go to funding our school field trips. DJ Jason is back providing music, and Michael Crownheart and The Ukesters return to entertain us. Come enjoy an unforgettable evening.
