Last week we hosted eight area high schools for our annual High School Night. Although this event was competing with the last game of the World Series, nonetheless parents and students found it an enlightening program as decisions are being made for next year. What was exciting to me was the number of choices available to our students and the desire on the part of area high schools to have our students join their program. Many of the schools represented brought St. Michael’s graduates to share their experiences on the high school level. Not surprising, each of the students was able to clearly articulate the value of the St. Michael’s education in preparing them for the next level in their education. My conversations with principals, admissions representatives, and high school teachers confirmed once again the value of a balanced approach to education. Our students are not only interested in the level of challenge in a school’s academic program, but are also interested in the variety of other programs which enable students to continue to explore wide interests. As I left that evening, I was so grateful for what our faculty and administration does to prepare our students for the next level. Time and time again it is confirmed that our students thrive in a balanced program. They strive to do well in all of their classes, but at the same time bring excitement and enthusiasm to athletics, the fine arts, and leadership opportunities. Because the difference at St. Michael’s is BALANCE, we send forth extremely well-rounded students who succeed in high school and beyond.
