Coach’s Corner

Middle School Sports
Our middle school sports are off to a great start. The volleyball and flag football teams are practicing hard, getting ready for games to begin. Remember, no practice this Friday, 9/1, due to the noon dismissal and no practice on Monday, 9/4, due to the Labor Day holiday.
Upcoming games this week:
Thurs, 8/31 – Flag Football vs AoT @ SM at 4:00 p.m. This is an “A” Team-only game.

Intramurals
Our fall intramural program will begin next week! The first practice will be Tuesday, September 6th. We will begin with four weeks of soccer, followed by four weeks of flag football. Practices are Monday-Thursday from immediately after school until 4:45 p.m. A flier with more specific information went home in last week’s Eagle Express and is included in this week’s Eagle Blog.

Coaches’ Corner

Flag Football – Our Flag Football team won their first-round playoff game, and they will  head to the semi-finals tomorrow(10/27) to take on Tucson Country Day School @ TCDS at 4:00 p.m. If they win that game, they will head to the finals. The site and team for the finals is to be determined.

Volleyball – Our Girls’ Volleyball team got the #1 seed in the tournament! We will be hosting the league tournament here at St. Michael’s. Their first game will be Tuesday, November 1, at 4:30 p.m. They will then play Wednesday, November 2, at 4 p.m. in the semi-finals, and then (we trust) at 6 p.m. again in the finals. Please note that for the playoffs, there is a $2.00 entrance fee for adults. Students are free. This fee helps to cover the league costs for referees, trophies, etc.

Intramurals – Our Fall Intramural season will be finishing up tomorrow (10/27). Our Winter Intramurals will begin in mid-November. More specific dates will be announced next week. Permission slips for our Winter Intramurals will be available beginning November 1st. The sports offered in the winter are volleyball and basketball.

Winter Sports – Our winter sports season for the middle school is about to kick off! Our Coed Soccer will begin practicing on November 7th. Please note, the practice days will be Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday. (Last week I mistakenly wrote M, T, Th).
Softball News – Unfortunately, we did not have enough girls sign up to field a softball team this year.

Intramural Program Starting Sept. 23rd

I am happy to say that I have hired a coach for the intramural program. We will be starting up on Monday, September 23rd.   We will start with four weeks of soccer followed by four weeks of flag football.  The program will run on M, T, Th, & F from3:15 to 4:45.   If your child is only interested in one sport or the other, they are allowed to only do four weeks for $37.50, but I would encourage them to do both.

I would also like to open up tennis to the 4th and 5th graders. The tennis team practices the same days M, T, Th, & F but from 3:45-5:15 at Ft. Lowell Park. It is the parents’ responsibility to get them to and from the park.  Students will need the After School Permission slip, a participation fee of $75 made out to St. Michael’s, and a current physical on file with the nurse.
