Welcome back to school! SMA (St. Michael’s Angels) is one of two parent-volunteer organizations on our campus, along with the Vaqueros. We welcome and encourage all parents to get involved in some way this year. It will be a great one! It’s a wonderful way to support our school while creating stronger friendships and connections within the St. Michael’s community.
Our first Coffee Corner will be held Friday, September 1, in front of the School Office. Stop by for a cup of coffee and catch up with parents at school.
We will be kicking off our Box Tops on September 25th. There will be some fun prizes for the top classes, so start saving your Tops!
Mark your calendars for September 15th. St. Michael’s will be hosting an ice cream social…more details to come soon.
Last Saturday we had a very successful uniform exchange. Over 90 families participated, more than 800 items found new homes, and all money raised will go right back to the kids! Our next SMA Coffee Corner will be held this Friday from 7:30 to 8:15 a.m. outside the School Office. Swing on by for a hot cup of coffee! Thank you to Kristina and Dr. John Chastain of Tucson Ear, Nose, and Throat P.C for sponsoring this month’s event and for supporting our community.
The next uniform sale and exchange is this Saturday, January 7, from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. in the new multi-purpose room. All seasons of clothes will be available. It’s a great excuse to clean out your closets of good-quality uniforms your child has outgrown. Items will be available for even exchange or for $2 or $4.
Our next SMA meeting will be held Wednesday, January 18, at 8:05 a.m. Location is TBD – either the Parish Center or the new multi-purpose room. Hope to see you there!
We had another successful Uniform Sale and Exchange last Wednesday. Hundreds of items found new homes–just another way we are keeping St. Michael’s green! As the holiday season kicks off, a big thank-you goes out to Kerry Byrd for enhancing our beautiful campus with an amazing Christmas look and feel. Her vision, time, and hard work is much appreciated. Also many thanks to Denise Blair for helping out. It’s a big job, so thank you!
The Holiday Greens will arrive today (Wednesday) and will be delivered to the classrooms on Thursday by pick-up time. There are a limited quantity of wreaths, garlands and centerpieces still available to purchase. If anyone needs to make different arrangements for the pick-up of their greens or would like to purchase any, they can contact Kim Greene at email@example.com or 520-326-9038.
Gift Wrap will arrive this Friday, December 4th, hopefully to be delivered to the classrooms by pick-up time. In the event the truck shows up late, we will have them delivered on Monday. The uniform exchange is happening today, December 2. If you missed it this morning, the Parish Center will be open again from 11:30-12:30. Gently used clothes will be accepted for even exchange, and items will be available for purchase for $2 and $4.

A reminder: next Friday, September 11, is our annual “St. Mike’s Diner.” We hope you will join us in celebrating a successful start to the new school year. Let the good times roll for your entire family, with pizza available for purchase, ice cream, and music! The SMA Coffee Corner returns this Friday, August 28. Our Coffee Corner is a great opportunity to meet new families, reconnect with friends, and hear of the upcoming programs at St. Michael’s. As a complement to your morning coffee, the Eighth Grade Class will be hosting a bake sale at this Friday’s social. We hope you can join us for a cup of coffee and a treat or two between 7:30-8:30 a.m. outside the School Office.
For anyone who may have some extra time to give during the school year, the SMA will be hosting a “volunteer fair” at this week’s Coffee Corner. We hope you will find this time useful in discovering the many wonderful opportunities the SMA has for parent volunteers. These events would not be possible without the generous support of our families. Thank you for the consideration!
Also in conjunction with Coffee Corner, we will be hosting a fall uniform exchange in the Foundations Courtyard before and after school on Friday. You will receive tickets for items donated in good condition and can then use these tickets to purchase items in exchange. If you are without items to donate but are in need of gently used, high-quality items, we do accept cash and check payment for purchases.
Lastly, for those of you who have graciously offered your time to be a room parent, there will be a meeting next Tuesday, September 1, at 8:05 a.m. in the Smith Parish Center. This informative meeting will be your opportunity to hear of the responsibilities of being a room parent and ask any questions you may have. We are still in search of a few classroom parents. If this interests you, please contact one of the SMA chairs, Terese Souvignier or Julia Rebert.

Order forms for flower bouquets for the upcoming K-3 Fine Arts Night Performance of RATS are going home in today’s Eagle Express folders. These order forms are also available to download online from the St. Michael’s blog. Orders are due back to the School Office by Wednesday, April 15. Your bouquet will be available for pickup before the performance on Friday, April 17, at our flower stand in the magically transformed Creswell Courtyard, otherwise known as “Hamlin”. Only a limited number of bouquets will be available for purchase the night of the performance so place your order early!

It takes an army to…run a book fair! Our annual “Under the Sea”-themed Scholastic Book Fair could not have been possible without our very own St. Michael’s army of volunteers. The “Sabino Strollers” are at it again! Our monthly strolls have been so enjoyable that we’ve decided to walk Sabino Canyon twice in March! Please join us this Friday, March 27, for a leisurely stroll through the desert. We will meet by the School Office immediately after drop-off at 8:15 a.m. Please notify Bridget Peyton at firstname.lastname@example.org if you are interested in joining us so we will know to look for you before we head up to the canyon.

What a busy week we’ve had! Our Love of Reading Week included visits from author Austin Aslan and Tucson’s very own Mayor Rothschild! All golden tickets were found in no time! Thank you to everyone who participated and donated books. The folks at Reach Out and Read for Southern Arizona were very grateful to us. We are indebted to our Love of Reading dynamo volunteers: Tami Arthur, Susie Huerta, Vicki Lazaro, Mary Lou Martin, and Mrs Faltico. We also had our Book Fair from Wednesday through Friday.
